Composer-controlled music
How can music respond to a game while staying in the composer’s hands?
Following the composer’s intentions
At UNSW, I study how AI can adapt game music to player actions while following the composer’s intentions. The research examines how composer-defined constraints can guide changes to motifs, harmony and rhythm so that the music retains its intended style and structure.
This is ongoing doctoral research. My vision is to enable game music that responds to players in real time while keeping composers in control of its creative direction.
Focus areas
- Adaptive game music
- Composer-centred AI
- Controllable music generation
Where the work stands
A first prototype checks proposed changes against composer-defined rules outside a running game; it is described on the projects page. Real-time adaptation during play is the longer-term goal.
